Is there any way I can remove the music, whether it be by installing my GOG version, a patch or anything. I like the game, but I despise the repetitive music. Please be specific in instructions! I have read similar threads without understanding!

Game -> Settings -> Background music. Might want to turn off event music as well.

While you're there it's a good time to review your settings. Turning animations off is a good way to speed up the game. I don't like the end of turn summary as it seems useful, but in practice it's something players click away and pay no attention to when it pops up.

Another way to say the same thing: on the screen where you load/save games, there's a "Settings" button on the lower right. Un-check all 3 options under "Sound & Music" and the game will go silent. Very handy if you want to listen to your own music selection while playing.
