Hello!

I have a normal modern system, with 4GB RAM and a GEFORCE GT240 video card with 1GB and I have the latest NVIDIA drivers of course.
My problem with the game is that the graphic is so bad that I found the game almost unplayable.
On the other hand, I have bought others old games here on GOG like the whole HOMM and AOW series and also the first editions look clear and sharp.
Another game, LORDS OF MAGIC, it is good to see and playable, but the screens are not so defined and clear like the ones here on GOG LOM page,

My question is:

Is there a way to improve the graohics quality of the old games?

Thanks in advance!

One thing to try would be to use a scaler. Look for the dosbox configuration file for the game in your game directory (ends with .conf). It's called dosboxMOM.conf if memory serves. Make a backup copy of the file. Then open it with a text editor and look for the "scaler=" setting. Try setting it to scaler=hq3x for starters, save the file, and see how that works.

I have tried but the result was the same ... scaler had the value nomal2x and I changed it in hd3x.
For me depends on the game itself ... the first HOMM1 was about the same period (2 years later) and the graphic is crytal clear.

Once again, the annals of history have an answer to a new question - "You can't make a silk purse out of a sows' ear."

Better graphics pretty much would require you to remake the graphics and graphics engine of the game. A filter can make graphics look better, but with MoM, great a game as it is, there really isn't much to work with for graphics.

I would say that, even within the limitations of a tile based game at its low native resolution, the graphics of MoM are remarkably ugly.

That said, replacing them with anything better would likely be not easy. They managed it with Ultima 4. I have no idea how likely it is that MoM's tiles could be similarly improved. It doesn't look like there's much will to do it, which is a shame.
I play it in a 1024*768 window with some scaler (don't remember which), it's playable...

The dosbox scalers help a bit, but they can't really fix the frankly uninspired icons the game uses for most things. What MoM really needs is a completely new tile set. Preferably a high resolution one.

Well, what MoM *REALLY* needs is a good, well made sequel, with enough attention to graphics to not be an affront to modern sensibilities without detracting from the good rich strategy game play that is its forte. Barring that, though, what it needs is a completely new tile set.
