Hi everybody,
I successfully transferred my saves from Mac version to Windows recently (much more stable on my MBP) but I miss smoovy rendering style Boxer offered in Mac version. It looks like some kind of SuperSaI upscale, giving game this lovely watercolour look (yes, I am aware many people dislikes that, no haters please ;-). Even after tons of messing with algorithms I was not able to achieve similar (and consistent!) effect on Windows version. Any ideas how to do that?

In the game's installation folder is a file named dosboxMC.conf
Open it with any text editor and find the line

scaler=normal2x

You can change the scaler to your linking by replacing "normal2x" with the name of another one.
Here are all variations and how they look like:

Maybe one of them is similar to what you're looking for.

Hi DeMignon and thanks. The thing is, I know I can use scaler but none of them behaves at least close to this smoove mode. On Windows version, there are tons of incompatibilities between renderers and scalers. Boxer's Smoove is kind of post-processing for whole screen, no matter if it displays text mode or FMV, allowing the box to run in normal fullscreen without messing with resolution, etc. I didn't see anything like that in Windows DOSbox.

My wild guess is something like hq3x but pinned to output overlay like in case of video players. Maybe such feature is not even possible with Windows WDDM, I don't know, so I wanted to ask.

I see. I only touched Boxer marginally, so I wasn't fully aware of this. Maybe someone else got a good idea. DOSBox' different scalers are the closest thing I can think of. The rest of the scaling is done afterwards by the graphics card if you set DOSBox to anything else than output=surface and you change the "fullresolution" variable to something different than "original".
