i was terribly disappointed with my purchase of magic carpet 1, i spent money on it because it was one of the favorite games of my youth, but now it just sits on my desktop unused. what a waste of 5.99.

anyways, although many others seem to have had success getting it to run exactly as it is supposed to (oh my envy for them is wide and vast) i have not, even with hours of tinkering with the dosbox settings. i dont know much about mc2, so before i spend money on it i have to ask:

can i expect to experience the same issues with MC 2? is it built around exactly the same engine? or will it run without issues in the native windows environment? or maybe its a different engine, and might not have the same performance issues?

let me know, and ty for the help!!!!

It's the same (but slightly improved) engine, and it still runs in DOSBox (it's a DOS-only game after all). On a whole it does seem to run a bit more smoothly than the first game. Take from that what you may. If you had such severe problems with the first it may still be a gamble for you. I figure whatever CPU you have may be the culprit as that is really the only big thing affecting DB-based games.
What is the issue you are having exactly? I'm sure there are a few of us around here that can try to help you out.
From my experience, GoG did a bad job with setting up dosbox for MC1, I'm a little surprised that you could not fix it by tweaking dosbox, since it fixed it for me.

MC2 is properly set up with Dosbox so it worked great without tweaking and was a much better experience. Though there are some problems with the high res mode on some levels so I recommend not using High Res mode with it. It's still runs much better than MC1.
