seednx: Why does anybody download executable files from unknown sources? Easiest way to get trojan horses or viruses...
Theyre data files not executables.

Thank you modders for doing this work. I appreciate it unlike people spreading FUD.

Delete the sounds folder
Download the missing DTA FILES:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1pMq_3uWc3MQk_f_5ENmACoB_WQi-FcQ-

Extract the archive and copy the files alongside the other DTA files i.e. a1.dta, a2.dta, etc
So which is it? The main directory or the sounds folder? Kind of getting mixed instructions here...

Nevermind, neither works.
Ty very much! The game without the music isn´t just the same childhood memory as it is now with the music. Thank you!

Actually the extractor on page 1 IS a executable.

The good news is: You don't need it. Installing just the mod package is enough.
And yes, it's stored in a self extracting archive for some reason. Don't trust the .exe? Rename it to .7z or .rar and use WinRar to unpack it

@ seednx
There are millions of executable tools on the internet. Some might be infected with malware, that's true, that's why I have a good antivirus solution (for those who don't want to pay: Windows defender is already a veryy good solution for unexperienced users, a bit overprotective maybe, but better safe than sorry, right?). But the majority isn't.

The biggest problem is that some tools act LIKE malware (like dgvoodoo, it presents a fake graphics card to the game, which some antivirussoftware sees as "unwanted operation") and you have to create exceptions for these. Then it's up to you to decide which exe you trust and which one you don't.

I have this weird problem. I downloaded the music mod then I extract them in the installation folder and delete the sounds folder. But I don't have any music on the intro video (don't know about cutscenes further in the game). Anyone know how to fix this?

im new to this and really needs some help. I just downloaded Mafia II, and it keeps glitching. Is there anything i can do to stop it? pls someone help
I bought the german version of Mafia 1 GoG and missed the music.

There are two types of music:
1. walking around the city has music and
2. special mission music like in mission "happy birthday" on the steamer on the top deck

For curing the game you need two files:

to 1. AB.dta contains language independent music played during walking around the city
to 2. A0.dta contains language specific dialogue files "sounds" which you need in your language, for me german
also contains mission specific music

If I put both files in my Mafia install folder and delete the folder sounds it works for me with the music in both cases.

EDIT: If you like to jump to mission "happy birthday!" use saves from gamebanana point com slash mods slash 36250

3. Extract it and copy the 'SOUNDS' folder to where you installed the GoG version of Mafia.
but the file has .exe extension. is it just a self-extracting package or a mod?

Got it. Will try

The file package from "mega.nz" appears to contain the trojan "Trojan.Updane.me" (in an executable unpacker) according to reputable multi-scanner Virus Total.

marcinshaq: ///First part of this tutorial is for people who already have the original installed on their PC, and second is for people who don't.///

///Steam and original disc versions///

1. First, install Mafia from your disc or go to the directory where you installed your Steam version of the game and download the MafiaDataXtractor from here: https://mafiamods.com/mods/mafia-data-xtractor-modding-tool/

2.
Next, extract the DataXtractor and copy MafiaDataXtractor.exe to the root of Mafia directory where Game.exe is located (Ex. C:\ProgramFiles\Mafia\ or C:\ProgramFiles\Steam\steamapps\Mafia\)

3.
Launch MafiaDataXtractor.exe and select ab.dta - Music from the list. Wait for the program to extract .ogg's

4. Now that extracting is done, you should see a new folder called 'SOUNDS'. Copy the whole thing to where you installed the GoG version of Mafia. Windows will ask if you would like to replace the existing files, say 'Yes'.

All done!

----------------------------------------------------------

///For those who don't have the original disc or the Steam version installed///

1. Install Mafia from GOG.

2. Download this package: https://mega.nz/#!ilYHFI5I!TBkB0e05WxvkO4-_BtVZJkuuNoNIGF8Ac5vpVP3EtMw

3. Extract it and copy the 'SOUNDS' folder to where you installed the GoG version of Mafia. Windows will ask you if you would like to replace the existing files, say 'Yes'.

Enjoy!

EDIT: Thank you @mwnn for the backup link :)

I found a GOG bug.

When you click this sticky it takes you to the last page instead of the first page.
