I played Mafia 1 about 6 months ago everything was cool, I also restored the .dta files to restore the soundtrack got up to the mission Creme de la Creme.

I left it for a few months and went to play it yesterday after updating my win 10 laptop, when i loaded up the mission it was soo slow and laggy, with no sound like almost frozen. Not sure what had changed. I updated my graphics card, tried running it compatibility mode for xp and loaded the mission/cutscene prior. and it was still laggy with no sound.

anyone else experiencing anything like this? got any fixes thanks

You shouldn't use compability mode with win 10 on this game though maybe xp compability is making it lag.

On Windows 10 (and windows 8/8.1) all dx8/8.1 games are using borderless mode instead fullscreen exclusive mode; this cause stuttering/lag/slowdowns and v-sync can't work

try to use a dx8 to dx9 converter or dgvoodoo 2 (DON'T copy files into C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32)
