No, The MAX 2 interface is bad. Units can't find their way anywhere, and it does not help they added impassable areas to the map. It does not look as good as Max. They tried with 3/4 angle and it just does not work. Hard to tell which units our yours too, you have to select them. I tried the first mission and just quit and played Max instead. I was hoping to try the new alien units, but I can't get past the interface, it's too frustrating.

I beta tested MAX 2 and Interplay pushed it out the door before we had tested Multiplayer. It was buggy but I still bought it and still loved it. I had enver played MAX 1 before MAX 2 so I didnt' know it. I prefer RTS than TB games. I had no problems playing MAX 2 and love it to this day.
Max2 did indeed try to be to much of everything and ended up a not very good at all. It was rushed out of testing and it has a buggy feel . Major parts of the strat and tactics were just tossed into the rubbish bin to appease the then emerging RTS crowd. Add to that the great concept that made MAX was just trashed. So max2 not worth it but max Rocks hard.

In MAX2, it is absolutely necessary to turn the grid-dsplay as well as fog-view on.

3D maps and "line of sight" is surely an improvement compared to MAX, but is pretty likely to make the Interface more complicated to use.
I actually prefer MAX2 to MAX1. Maybe it's because I played it first.
I don't know if there's a fix for it, but what killed my interest for M.A.X.2 was that it was buggy as hell and CTD'd for me all the time. From what I remember, it was actually shipped with a bug that meant it could never get past turn 89 or so. For a guy who prefers long, strategic engagements instead of rush-fests, that was unacceptable. In general, the gameplay felt weaker too, with some of the more novel ideas of the original either downplayed or removed. The replacements weren't good enough (seriously, who liked the energy management in two?). The elevation of terrain was a neat idea IMO though.
in my opinion, max one was a masterpiece, and its worth 6 bucks.

but if you include max 2 in the deal, then you gotta take off at least 5 bucks, just for having that messy ugly peice of crap in your games catalog.

so MAX= 6 bucks

MAX 1 and 2 = 1 dollar.

thats should speak volumes about the quality of max 2.
MAX 2 was shipped with many bugs. Sadly but with the 1.04 patch it did fix a lot of them. The game was really playable for me (Real Time). I was in the beta team and we had advised them of the bugs but Interplay decided to ship it out before we even tested multiplayer.

MAX series are still great games.
Thanks for the reviews.

The thing that killed M.A.X 2 for me was that the default gameplay mechanic was changed to realtime (I THINK you can change it to turnbased, but I am not sure). This was probably done to broaden the audience, but it backfired.
Greetings!

What I think? M.A.X 2 is a big mistake...M.A.X 1 is a masterpiece! Notice: If You set the Supereagle rendering then MAX 1 looks 100% better as is. Seriously, MAX 2 looks simply ugly. God Damn! I expected very similar graphic to "1" but this is like a @#$%!

I am really disapointed :(

M.A.X.2 is a very good strategy game. I've been playing this game ever since it first came out played it for years and years and always find something new and unpredictable in its gameplay.

Try a Custom Game with real-time mode and medium resources against 2 other average A.I. opponents on a map with high mountains, a winding river and dry plains. Those are fast and furious 'free for all' matches that can end exactly like that... fast games or long drawn-out games.
M.A.X. 1 -> Masterpiece, everything makes sense, great interface, Love it!(except for the damn bug!)
M.A.X. 2 -> Horrible, streamlined, watered down, ugly, awful interface, I would not play it if given to me for free.

M.A.X. 1 would worth more than $6, for certain, (I paid full retail price for it when I bought it on release and it did worth it), if it was not for the bug. 150 turns are not enough for me. I want to play more. If it is no problem for you and you really like Strategy in games, grab M.A.X. 1 and do not even look at M.A.X. 2. Pretend that it does not exist in the package.
