I've had this game in my library a long time, and I'm a big fan of Revolution's other games, so I tried to give this one a go finally. But it's a ridiculous struggle to make any progress because of the completely broken seeming way the game handles NPC's and the player bumping into each other. Very early on, it took me a half hour of failed attempts to get the jester guy to push the brick to let me out of the prison. I'd 'tell' him the proper instructions, and he'd move a fraction of an inch, bump into me, stop moving, and abandon my instructions. It took probably 20 tries to maneuver myself into just the right position before 'telling' in order to get him to actually move. I hoped maybe that was just a one time thing, but then I got into town, and it was somehow even much worse. Every step I try to take, I seemed to get into a cycle of me bumping into him, him saying "Excuse me sir" and moving only to bump into me while moving, "Excuse me sir" again -- a dozen rounds of the two characters on screen circling and bumping into each other. Then I get to the bar, and wow, that was it, rage quit time. Four characters on screen, all moving around randomly and repeatedly bumping into each other, I can't accomplish anything because of the constant, nonstop stream of NPC's bumping into each other and excusing themselves.

No, it's not broken in the original! The ScummVM port GoG approved has broken the pathfinding AND the speed of the NPCs AND haven't fixed the sound compatibility AND even broke the dialogue strings of the game. The pathfinding thing they broke though is making LOTT both annoying and unplayable (as in - you literally can't progress).

You should play the DOSBox abandonware version. It doesn't have these game stopping, tedious bugs!

Unfortunately the DOS version has another problem you have to go around - there's anti-piracy protection which makes a pickable object disappear from the floor of the locksmith's room. To solve this you have to start a New Game and as soon as you wake up in your cell after the intro, RESTART the game from the in-game menu. This solves the protection issue.

There's another issue with the sound - you have to disable in DOSBox config (in my case - dosbox-0.74-3.conf) all sound cards except for a pure Sound Blaster to get good sound. Like this (in the corresponding lines):
mpu401=none
sbtype=sb16
gus=false
tandy=false
disney=false
That's it! That's better then the ScummVM port approved by GoG! And in the DOSBox abandonware, the NPCs just behave correctly and don't get you stuck! It's a completely different game! This one here is broken in so many ways...
