So when the GOG launcher version crashed on me (from what I've read on the forums it's due to coming pre-packaged with an older version of Scummvm that's prone to issues) I moved the folder and just launched it with the more recent version of Scummvm and all seemed well for a while. But then I rescue Ratpouch and that's when the game goes to hell for me.

Movement goes all haywire. Many instances I'll try to move in one direction but instead my character will be stuck in place, even if there is plenty of space to maneuver away, with Ratpouch repeatedly exclaiming "Excuse me sir!" with every click I make. Eventually my character is able to move but with unnecessary difficulty. Other instances I will try to talk to someone, whether Ratpouch or someone in town, and even if there is a clear path to the character to go to speak to my character instead will fidget around different direction, run around in a circle and just stop somewhere in the middle of the screen and nowhere near the character I'm trying to speak to. This happened so much it made the game nigh-unplayable for me.

Nobody seemed to be having this issue from what I've read so I ended up downloading the version off of Scummvm's website. I'm trying this version on DOSBox and so far it is MUCH more functional. I can actually move to where I want to go and talk to who I want to without my character wandering around in a confused, delirious daze. So my question is what the hell happened with the GOG version that caused the issues I was having? Is there anyone else that had these problems?

Yep. Sometimes when I want to talk to somebody, my character makes 3 circles around the screen before finally giving up and then I have to approach them from different angle hoping it'll work out. Same thing when I order Ratpouch to do something. It's really annoying. I've seen a let's play video of Amiga version and there were no such problems.
DOSBox, MUNT 1.4.0, CM32L ROMs, no broken SCUMMVM engine, enjoy.

cannard: I've had this game in my library a long time, and I'm a big fan of Revolution's other games, so I tried to give this one a go finally. But it's a ridiculous struggle to make any progress because of the completely broken seeming way the game handles NPC's and the player bumping into each other. Very early on, it took me a half hour of failed attempts to get the jester guy to push the brick to let me out of the prison. I'd 'tell' him the proper instructions, and he'd move a fraction of an inch, bump into me, stop moving, and abandon my instructions. It took probably 20 tries to maneuver myself into just the right position before 'telling' in order to get him to actually move. I hoped maybe that was just a one time thing, but then I got into town, and it was somehow even much worse. Every step I try to take, I seemed to get into a cycle of me bumping into him, him saying "Excuse me sir" and moving only to bump into me while moving, "Excuse me sir" again -- a dozen rounds of the two characters on screen circling and bumping into each other. Then I get to the bar, and wow, that was it, rage quit time. Four characters on screen, all moving around randomly and repeatedly bumping into each other, I can't accomplish anything because of the constant, nonstop stream of NPC's bumping into each other and excusing themselves.
Revolution and GoG trusted the ScummVM port which created terrifying bugs that never existed in the original.

It's not broken like this in the original! The port here has broken the pathfinding AND the speed of the NPCs AND haven't fixed the sound compatibility AND even broke the dialogue strings of the game. The pathfinding thing they broke though is making LOTT both annoying and unplayable (as in - you literally can't progress).

Anyone here that's annoyed should play at least the DOSBox abandonware version. It doesn't have these game stopping, tedious bugs!

Unfortunately the DOS version has another problem you have to go around - there's anti-piracy protection which makes a pickable object disappear from the floor of the locksmith's room. To solve this you have to start a New Game and as soon as you wake up in your cell after the intro, RESTART the game from the in-game menu. This solves the protection issue.

There's another issue with the sound - you have to disable in DOSBox config (in my case - dosbox-0.74-3.conf) all sound cards except for a pure Sound Blaster to get good sound. Like this (in the corresponding lines):
mpu401=none
sbtype=sb16
gus=false
tandy=false
disney=false
There's a way to get even better sound but I'm a simple user, I don't want to go further than this.

And that's it!
That's better than the result of the porting done in ScummVM! And in the DOSBox abandonware the NPCs just behave correctly and don't get you stuck! It's a completely different game! This one here is broken in so many ways...
