After crafting an item, all materials used will respawn if you save and exit the game and restart (version 0.91.35) this only effects materials and only the last item crafted.

I only noticed this because often its the last thing I do before quitting the game and after a while it became apparant that rare materials, which were more noticable, were respawning... so I tested it...
I'm not seeing that at my end... is there some set craft that you always get this result from?

are you sure you press save and exit and not just exit?

use menu save and quit and reload game.

you can save after upgrade and/or then save and quit (menu item), and then reload the game to restore the materials, as far as I can see this applies to all items whether new or upgarded but only the last one, Gold is spent this only applies to materials.

This is particularly relevant to Arcane shards and Arcane crystals since these allow high level upgrades and new items and are rather rare in the game more so then others from what I can see.

ok I can confirm a bug when upgrading items & fyi v0.91.35.2 is the current build

996 is me about to upgrade a shortsword

997 is the upgrade works... I then pressed 'save and exit' and restarted \ loaded my save

999 is the upgrade looks to have taken 4 of 1 single craft material instead of the correct which should have been 2 of two different materials

as he has just pushed the .2 patch today I assume this was an attempt at fixing your .1 bug which didn't work as well as hoped but its nice to see him try ;)

I havn't seen any difference in 0.91.35.2, I just upgraded a whole bunch of items the same as previously?

your result looks different to mine though... but I may not have noticed some materials being used, the rare ones are arcane crytal/shards and probarbly occurence needs to increase a bit, if only for balance their a major a block in upgrading otherwise, quite apart from the skill percentages needed for success...

But will check next time...
Ok I just checked... see pic.

Common, Rare,and Epic all behaved correctly and used materials as required and did not replace them when the game was saved and quit then reloaded...

However Legend was the same as before and returned the used materials... as before

I didnt get the same results as you did...

I checked this twice with a darkwood and normal bow results were the same...
