When you enter Velengarn for the first time, the guard asks you to pay him 100 gold to be allowed to enter the city.
I noticed that the guards sometimes ask you to pay again to enter or leave the city.
Is that normal ?
Do they ask randomly or do they ask on a regular basis ?

From what I remember, they ask every time (or nearly every time). Eventually I got strong enough to remove them permanently from the gate :)

I think you pay them for entry for a set amount of time and when that runs out you have to pay again.

Was going to make a new thread on this topic...
Anyhow...

Yes, you can get trapped inside the city if your run out of gold.
They will ask for the toll again after a few days(2-3 days?) .

Its possible to get locked inside the city.

If you're strong enough you can defeat them. They won't respawn so you'll never have to pay again

exactly. Your goal is to explore and gain a few levels so you can wipe out those 3 sets of guards at the first town to get rid of them of course and to keep them from leeching gold off you all the time. I usually tackle them once my bard gets stunning song. You want to get rid of them asap to keep the gold cost down.
