Agreed. I bought this on GOG because I want to support GOG and don't agree with the "you don't really own the game" principles of those stores. I bought the game shortly after launch but had to stop because of the frustration with the clunckiness of the control and a variety of minor issues.
It took several weeks for the 1.1.1 patch to come out on the alternate stores and then the 1.1.2. version to drop just one or two days later. During that whole time the developes where way to tight lipped and it was really hard to find any information affirming that work a patch was actually ongoing. One more week later and GOG users are still on broken version 1.0.4. The client doesn't even tell us what version is installed but we have to go into the game to confirm if it has been updated or not.
Did I mention the GOG client frequently crashes when I start or close the game? That is not even one of the issues I was waiting to get fixed.
Here is the summary of what I could have gotten had I bought this in an alternate store:
1. I would already have had the new patch
2. My client wouldn't be constantly crashing
3. I could have been more easily engaged in an active discussion forum where developers are present, meaning I would have had the information about patches more timely and been able to support other users request
4. I would have been able to leave an initially poor review, wait for the developers to do their patch work, then bump up the rating if I see they do what they need to do.
5. The client would be telling me what version the game is.
6. I would have been able to jump from the game in library page back to the store page and/or discussion pages with a signle click, as opposed to having to navigate the client menus back and search for the game in the store in order to find the discussion forum.
GOG, is the learning we should take away from this that buying a newly launched game on GOG is a big risk because we are not going to get the attention the game get's from players buying such game in other stores? If this is not the conclusion you want players to take away then you need to take some action. Would you please get your act to gether and fix the glaring limitations in your client while you are at it?
