I already have LBA2 on disc. Last time I played it I still had Win98. I installed it again recently under 64bit Win7 and initially struggled to get it running in DosBox, but managed it eventually however the screen resolution is poor because it's running on a 1920x1200 monitor and the music is very choppy.
Is the GOG version better? Can the resolution be made higher so it doesn't look so blocky? And is the music okay?

Is it worth paying for it again? is basically what I'm asking, or am I just as well to stick with my original CD?

I prefer LBA2 because it's easier. I had LBA1 on the Playstation and last time I played it was running it on a Playstation Emulator, which worked rather well. I bought LBA1 from GOG but got sick of dying all the time, the dodgy controls and the music that's too loud so I gave up playing it. At least with the Playstation emulated version I can quick save whenever I want.

Both LBA2 and LBA should work without any adjustment (for me it was painless, which is not something I can say about the boxed version on newer systems).
As always both games scale quite well, but they leave black bars on both sides (on 1920x1080). I've never had a problem with it, as everything else looks good.
Audio is great as far as I can tell, more info + even higher audio quality can be found on these forums, e.g.:

Seeing as you already have the boxed version I really don't see any reason to buy it here, BUT if GOG release the soundtrack then both games are a must buy to be honest ;).

The voice and music is much better in the LBA2 release (you can actually hear what's being said).

I already have the soundtrack, I ripped all the music from the LBA Playstation discs and the PC disc for LBA2. Both soundtracks are on my "generic MP3 player".

So is there anyway to increase the screen resolution of LBA2? Some sort of forced hack perhaps?

Well I've been getting on rather well with my original CD version except for a couple of problems. I had to turn off the CD music because there's a delay in the accessing of the disc, either due to the ancient game or the condition of the actual disc but the music is completely un-listen-able because it skips. So do the video clips. I've since copied the entire VOX files, music and videos to the HDD but how do I make the game access them from there instead of from the disc? I guess I'm asking for a "nocd" crack...?

I also now have a problem actually running the game because the disc has to be in the CD drive to play, the game won't even start now which is odd because it's been fine all week, Dosbox opens but then nothing happens because there's no activity from the disc drive. the disc makes some odd sweeping noises, cleaning it seemed to help for a bit but now it won't read the disc at all. there are no visible scratches on the disc.

It is my understanding that the general life span of a CD/DVD is about 20 years. My LBA2 disc is 14 years old, so still a few years left to go.

Before you ask, don't ask. I do have the CD case somewhere, but no game to be found. Same deal with Warcraft II and its expansion, so I'm waiting for that as well.
