I've looked at the game and thought I might try it, but going through some reviews (and posts) say the camera and controls are lacking.
Also I see posts inquiring about a better version with better music that isn't available for some reason. Is this Gog release any better then the steam release if there is no support from the Gog team?

The game simply isn't very playable. I don't think there are any versions that change that. You don't need any more camera angles, the game was built to operate fine within your field of view. The difficult part is just the controls, which is apparently all a combination of the four arrow keys along with Z and X.
