Are there any actual cheats for this game?

I'd much prefer actual cheats that are part of the game that will work. Anyone have any handy?

After much research, yes, there are cheats, however they weren't added to the final game ( along with many cool things like dual-wielding ). There is, however, a better solution.

If you extract the 'data.dat' file ( it's a common .zip ) you'll find some cheat scripts, but there's no way of activating them ingame. A German group spoke of a console, but no one as been able to find one.

However, once you've extracted the data.dat files ( simply having the 'data' folder in the game directory will be enough and you can simply delete/backup the original data.dat ) you can modify a lot of different parameters such as the amount of damage you gain for the "ST" attribute, to the availability of more rare item parameters ( for example: ring 'of Fiery Death' or 'Lava Burn' ) to the amount of experience needed for each level, the amount of skill points, the starting gold, racials, etc, etc.

You can also build a premade character using some of the other pre-existing characters as a template adding as many traits/racials/items as you wish.

That is really interesting...I'm actually kind of fascinated by this now! Thanks for finding that out. I look forward to looking into this. Even if they aren't usable in-game as such, it is always interesting to me to see the development of something like this and how it has affected the ultimate finished product.

Tried renaming the file to *.zip & extracting with uniextract.exe and failed. Which util did you use (WinZip)?

Thanks

I'd suggest 'Peazip' on Windows ( http://peazip.org/ ). 'unzip' on Linux works as expected.
If I remember correctly the default Windows extract should work too.

> $ file data.dat
> data.dat: Zip archive data, at least v1.0 to extract

Thank you; worked without errors (once I ran as admin & dumped the data into a read/write directory ...how I long for DOS! :)

Very interesting stuff in there, including dialog for Zax & Zelon (Zax: the Alien Hunter)

Indeed, you'll find lots of things which clearly show this project was released before it was finished. ( Here's me wishing, along with John Carmack's plea to open source old games, we'll see the code for this one too. )

A somewhat interesting thing you can try is deliberately making an error to get a debug message when you load the game, it's a fairly useless message but there are some details at least.

This sounds very interesting. In the past, I stalled my fighting quests to make my character stronger which took long periods of time. Changing the values in the file for my character is way easier and I'm gonna give it a try.
