Yeesh, I guess it's been a really long time since I played LSL 2. However, was there a general lack of continuous running background music in LSL 2? (The normal sounds, and opening music plays just fine. )

yeah there was a lack of background music it was standard for early Sierra games

There is still music during special events, like Larry's death among other fun scenarios.

LSL2 is still my favorite of the series, despite using a parser for input.
