Hand of Fate continually crashes at the point in the game where I scare the rat. This is about 10 minutes in from a new game start. Anyone else having this issue?

Yes; I am having the same issue; happens as soon as the rat runs away and at the instant when you regain control of the mouse

Have you contacted Support?

StasNagy, remember there's a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Currently having the exact same issue on a mac.
Interestingly enough, during my first game run (currenlty it's amy second) this did not happen !

However, I might have found a way to solve it:

*SOLUTION SPOILER*

Instead of using the potion to turn yourself into a medusa, use the potion on the mouse instead (it will create the cobra). This did not crash the game anymore.

Awesome! Thanks!
It seems this crash has been caused by bad sound data in the original. I committed a workaround to ScummVM and it should not happen anymore. The fix will definitely be in the next major ScummVM release (i.e. 1.8.0). If GoG manages to pick that up, it should also work out-of-the-box again.
In the meantime, another possible workaround would be to configure ScummVM to use MIDI music instead of AdLib. I prefer the MIDI music for the second game anyway, but for the first one I like AdLib better. (The third one uses digitized music, so there are no options there.)

I don't have the GOG releases of the games though, so I can't provide the exact steps to do that.
