I'm finding the spell system fiddly - is there a hotkey of some sort that quickly and easily recasts the previous spell used by that character?

At the moment I feel forced to only have one mage in the party which is a shame. I couldn't use another mage effectively especially if they had developed to use different spells.

Nope... i think i've read a while ago on the dev blog that this was a deliberate balancing choice: spells are quite powerful, even at level 1, and the trade off is that you can't spam them rapidly, but have to recast every time
I read in the dev blog that this game is supposed to be an old-school dungeon crawler.
Old-school dungeon crawlers have this feature.
The lame excuse mentioned below by Antaniserse is a balancing issue - they are capped by energy. If they think that they are too string (I don't because they gain levels and hence learn spells fairly slowly), they should fix it rather than dumbifying mages. My mage casts only light - other than that he throws rocks. Pretty useless class. I wish a thief could cast light so I could ditch dumbo.

Don't go all into one skill and you're mage won't get stuck with just light. I almost rely on my mage for tougher fights. Fireball does more damage to most enemies than either of my warriors.

LOL. That's crazy. Anyway, your rogue needs the rocks.
Mage spells hit multiple enemies so they are far from useless.

I found a lot of other thrown items that are far better than rocks. Shurikens, knives, axes.

But there are far more rocks in the beggining, also they fit nicely into the sling, and they don't "stuck" into the enemy when you hit them.

Spells are quite powerful in the beggining of the game, All those annoying skeletons all take damage from 1 spell, having a hotkey to spam magic would ruin the experience for me.

I do not see how when you are limited by energy and recast time.
I would be useful for me; pretty annoying as it is. It should be a choice.

I see their point, I just think they have dramatically overvalued the ability to hit all enemies in a single square and the actual damage output of magic spells when you balance those against the high energy costs and micromanagement required to actually use magic in combat. Still, it's their game, and I had fun playing it, so even if I think they fundamentally mis-balanced magic, I got my money's worth.
