I just bought Lands of Lore while preordering the game. It was recommended in the GOG message boards.

I am loving LOL1 and am excited to play LOG on release.
I am loving this game so much! Not like System Shock or Morrowind but i like it.

The nice story and more then just dungeons with traps with an interesting story and the fine westwood humor(Piscata Rosea!). Man i hated it back then...and now i even got past White Tower Level 3! Hopefully i will make it until the weekend so i can start Legend of Grimrock then(but...i think i will play LoG tomorrow and forget about LoL ;))
Haha, also playing Lands of Lore, doesn't seem like i'll be able to finish it before LoG though. Stuck in the castle looking for statues :P
Really awesome game though

Hehe I'm playing Stonekeep, just to "get in the mood". Can't wait for LoG. I hope this one starts a new trend in gaming: OLD SCHOOL GAMES SELL!!!!!!
Not Lands of Lore, but personally I've been taking advantage of this weekend's Might and Magic sale to tide me over for LoG:)

Bought 1-8 (though little intention of playing 1-3), and starting playing through 8. (7 I have already beaten, 6 I almost beat then lost my saves).

It's a bit different, in that it's not grid based, but the game is a wonderful dungeon crawler, with lots of traps and secrets in the dungeons.
I've been (and already am) playing LoL before LoG launch, seems it's one of the best dungeon crawlers out there... and one of the best RPGs in history without a doubt :D

You are talking about M&M 8? Haven't tried it yet so am curious.

LOL1 was a bit of a surprise when it launched. I worked at a retail software store and I was not sent any end-caps or advertising materials at all. Then it started selling like crazy once the reviews came out in the magazines and word of mouth spread. Fun game...I still need to finish it. I played it soon after release for about two weeks and finally got near the end and some kind of bug happened with my saves and I couldn't finish it. I think I just gave up on it. That was a long time ago so I am looking forward to playing it again...I don't remember much about the story.

That said, Grimrock tomorrow for sure. Nostalgia can wait awhile longer. :)

Over the years I finished it four time... The great difference between lands of lore and log is it was really story driven...

Another game in the same style is anvil of dawn... A great game with good graphics for the time came out... Both (lol aod) focus a little less on exploration as a result...
I grabbed LOL as well... been looking for it for a while... loved it and finished it when it first came out and I'm enjoying it again. 2 was OK but a bit clunky. I must have had the non cd edition as i don't remember so much speech..

This isn't really spoilerish (I hope) but I do remember you need sufficient thief skills to complete the end game
I played and loved LoL (although the White Tower also gave me fits). Anvil of Dawn was a great game, but it suffered from the fact that it was one of the last games of its type. When it came out true 3D role playing games were becoming the rage (even the LoL sequels had switched over) and few people picked it up and played it because of that I think.

Some years after the 3d revolution, I still find myself loving hand drawn, 2d art. A lot fo the art is gone from games today.
I had finished Land of Lore yesterday.
It was really difficult and at the end I needed a walkthrough because I didn´t found the last key for king Richard (shame on me).
This game was awsome and I think it is one of the best grid dungeon crawler.

The above statement was in reference to the Devil Trilogy of Might & Magic (collective name for 6-8) in general. Though If you have to try them, I would recommend 7, it's the best IMO.
