Hi everyone. I just bought this game (it looks so awesome, like Stonekeep or something) and am really excited to have found it. Unfortunately when I try to run it I get an error message saying it's either not made to run on Windows (?) or there is a corrupted file and I need to re-install. Well, after trying the compatibility stuff and reintstalling, I'm having the same error messages. I'm not sure what to do at this point, but after spending 15 dollars on it, I'd really love to be able to get it to work!

btw---i have Windows 7 which might be part of the problem, not sure.

I'd really appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks so much!
Tracy

Try removing or renaming the file "D3DX9_43.dll" from the Legend of Grimrock folder, if it's present. It has been flagged as causing a lot of compatibility errors. (Windows has its own version located elsewhere and the two seem to conflict.)
Test your download with "file checker integrity verifier." FCIV.EXE from Microsoft. Many "FREE" apps to do this are malware delivery devices.

If you still have problems consider reinstalling directx

That worked for me. Guessing there is a confilict between directx9 and directx11, as you said.
I encountered the same problem as catbelly36 (I'm running Vista). However, the suggestion of Garran worked for me, too. Garran should really get the points for the solution :)

What exactly does the file do, and is it needed?

I cannot run the game, i get the same error message.
The file name and info suggests that it's a DirectX 9 extension, but I don't know what it does specifically. However, it seems to be a different version than the one Windows uses (Windows has a file of the same name in its DirectX folder - usually System32 on XP) and this causes the compatibility problem because Windows "finds" the one in the Grimrock folder first.
