The saddest thing is, that for the most part (at least from my experience) these people are the ones with enough money to buy anything they want.
I love games, they are a big hobby of mine and often I find myself scratching the last cent out of my purse just to buy the game that I really want and therefor rewarding the studio/publisher for a great experience (if it was one).
And then there are these guys, who could easily effort that stuff, but instead pirate everything that seems slightly interesting. You'll approach them, asking: " If you like, why don't you buy it?" And their favorite answer will be: " It's a game, it's not worth it." Yeah, sure, all these hours of entertainment are not worth it...sure.
The worst offender in that regard that I have known was an ex-school colleague who had a desk that sported a huge silver tower , which was made out of CD-Rs full with pirated games. That thing was almost a meter high (knowing how flat CDs are you can imagine how much discs that were).
But there was one game...ONE GAME he bought for his money...The game acompanioning the first Incredible Hulk Movie. As if it wasn't cringeworthy enough, he only bought it because it was reduced (oh wonder why that happened so fast) to 5€.
Let me get this straight...at a time were you could get games like Blood Omen 2, Soul Reaver 2, Stronghold, Red Faction II, Alone in the Dark 4. Jagged Aliance 2, or any other good game on the budget pile for about that price he goes for the Incredible Hulk? (You know that "good" games are a matter of taste and such, but these games are just some examples that came to my mind when trying to remember the bargain bin of that time)
After Pirating almost everything that has somewhat of a rank and name on the pc...he supports a sh***y licensed game?
What a cruel joke that is.
