I think the data file got compressed (680 MB), maybe some texture tweaking, data clean up, etc. Just think about Skyrim which is impressivley small in my oppinion as well.

beginning too have abad feeling about this game even at a gig it cant be a very big game unless a lot of stuff is re-used, just knew i should of waited but the appeal of a dungeon master type game was too great.

i was concerned about this aswell.

the game is approx 780mb on steam. now, even if you take the steam drm overheard into account its still nowhere near the same.

im wondering what was removed.

as for the game longevity. thats meaningless, a game can be 100mb and be twice as long as Rage (which occupies 22gb). size doesnt mean squat in terms of game length.

but the disparity in version sizes, and previous advertised size, is worrying.

my download is stuck on 425.17MB too, the same as poster on first page. What the hell? I paused it and unpaused it, and now it is sad at 524.17MB, and not downloading anything. Damn it!

lets hope there not like capcom and we get charged for extra levels that should of been in too begin with, its a shame Avernum: Escape From the Pit was not on gog, really begining to think i should of got that instead, but will wait till its finished downloading and have played a bit of the game before i judge it anymore.

the full game, once downloaded, is only 438mb.
verified and installed it uncompresses to about 650mb.

so you cannot have an uncompleted download of 524mb. something is wrong with your gog downloader.

I am currently playing the game right now and it looks like the game designers did a great job reusing wall and floor tiles without the dungeons feeling bland or repetitive. Keep in mind that the quality of the game is not dependent on it's file size. In fact, since the game engine was developed from scratch, there is better chance that the small file size represents efficient programming rather than a lackluster game.

So far, I think the game is great!
