I see there is a great deal going on for these games and I hope to get a reply soon before it ends. Can these games be played just fine with the keyboard? I have a Wired Xbox 360 controller but since these games were only on PS im not sure it it will work. Thanks.

Please Reply ASAP!

Thanks.

Trying to learn the same about this as well, but I can say this: your 360 controller should be able to work with it, albeit you'll have to go through a bit of software to make that happen. Not sure if you're familiar with the bits of software you can use to do that, so one option is to use Xpadder which in my experience works phenomenally for most games once you've got it configured.

There are some freeware versions (of Xpadder, that is) supposedly floating around, and they seem to work just as well. Given its utility though, I think the $10 is worth it to give to the original programmer.

Do you have the games? I have used my 360 controller on my PC before but is something different with these games? I have looked up videos of these games and they seem very interesting but the combat seems like it could be weird on a keyboard.
Sorry, no, I don't have them, which is what I had hoped to convey when saying I was trying to learn about the keyboard controls as well. =)

As to whether there's something different about these games, the only real difference I can think of is that they're older, and so probably don't have native support for controllers, or at least controllers like the 360 one. This is something I've seen mentioned in some other threads in this forum as I looked about trying to see if this deal would be worth it.
Oh sorry, I thought thats what you meant I just wanted to be sure. I really hope some one who has played these on PC can help us out. You know before the deal ends please!
Gmr, Not sure if this helps but I found this.

People complain that SR1 is unplayable with keyboard. Personally I have no idea where they are coming from because for me the game works perfectly fine on keyboard. This is coming from someone who plays fighting games on keyboard though.
Other games work fine on keyboard only, although Defiance works much better with gamepad. As for X360 support. I don't have one but I checked my Logitech f710 in XInput mode (Windows recognises it as 360 controller then). It generally works, but there is a problem with right stick - X axis is bound to triggers and Y axis is bound to right analog X axis.
One hour to go ;-).
It sort of sucks on a keyboard as it was made for the playstation. I used a cheap ps2 knockoff controller and linked it to the keyboard with joy2key. It's easy to do and works like a charm.

Why does it suck? I hear it quite often but I haven't seen an actual argument yet. If SR1 offered analog movement, then I would agree, but since it's not - the only difference is button placement.

well there is no mouse look and you have to have both your hands on the keyboard doing movement and camera rotation. It's not unplayable, it's ok I guess, I played it like that back when it came out.
Recently I decided to use my gamepad and honestly there is no comparison. You can just sit back with your feet on the desk and with the controller comfortably in your hands and enjoy. You can use everything even the analogue sticks.
If you don't have a cheap gamepad around then keyboard is ok but there is no reason to not use the gamepad if you do.
A lot of games like this are made specifically for the gamepad and the pc ports didn't receive too much attention when it came to controlling the game. They just remapped the gamepad buttons on a keyboard and let you make the best of it.

You must have both hands on controller as well. I have my keys configured so I have camera controls and movement keys next to each other. No problems there.

As I mentioned, I do have a gamepad (two actually), and it works better for Defiance. I tried using it with SR1, but I saw no advantages and switched back to keyboard after an hour.

In most cases where the game offers actual mouse controls I find it almost always better to use M&K. And usually controlling the camera is done with the right analog stick, which means you either control the camera or the 4 control buttons.

there's a difference between having your hands resting on the keyboard and sitting back holding the controller on your lap or wherever you want to. I still remember getting sore wrists from playing the game too much on the keyboard and red marks on the base of my palm (maybe it's just me).
As for the camera I would use the shoulder buttons to rotate it left and right and I would press down on the right analogue to use the "look around" mode and then use the left analogue to look around. As far as I remember the only realtime camera control was the left and right rotation thing while moving, If you wanted to look around you had to stop and press the "look around" button, I think...
Is there an option to let me play with my gamepad(Wired Xbox 360 controller)? I didn't see any. How would I configure it for the game?
