I played this game on release date, it makes me feel so old. my older friends talked about the days when Alone in the dark was scary, i couldn't help but think you are so old! Now that one of my childhood GoGs has made it onto the site im telling these youngsters to try it, I'm getting to old for this :P Anyways i don't remember the controls being this bad and i cant use my mouse at all, is there some kind of config file or some option im missing so i can play with a mouse and keyboard until i get my new game pad?

Hey there,

alas, no, SR does not support a mouse, and without a gamepad it is almost unplayable.

Just wait for your gamepad but remember to use xpadder to assign the keyboard keys to the gamepad.

The game is perfectly playable with keyboard alone. I never understood why people are having problems with it.
Besides it has problems with gamepads and Xpadder is necessary, so your anoalogue stick will just emulate the direction keys and won't be analogue at all. As such it offers no advantage.
The problem with the keyboard is the fact that the controls are so twitchy in this version and being a platforming game, it can be annoying trying to get Raziel to stick his landings as it is with a nice fluid analog stick.

But trying to get him to platform with Arrow Keys or WASD? Yeah right lol. not saying its not possible to use, but it's certainly not intuitive and far more of a pain. This game was designed soley with a gamepad in mind and really shouldn't be played without one unless there is absolutely no alternative.

I know PC gamers tend to completely and champion KB/Mouse controls as supreme. But really it excels solely because of the mouse controls. The keyboard bonus only comes in the form of more keys.

But in a game like this, where the mouse isn't used and the game has only like 10 things really to program in, the KB/Mouse controls are far inferior to a nice old controller pad. And a thumbstick (analogue enabled or not) is always superior to WASD or Arrows. Seriously small fluid movements with just one of your thumbs is far easier to control and make more precise and responsive movements than using 3 fingers to try and do the same exact thing.

I never use Keyboard for gaming period. If I want or have to use KB/Mouse controls I map all my keyboard functions to my Nostromo N52 Pad. There I get a nice DPad at least.

That's not necessary, unless he uses the X360 controller. Similar joypads to Dualshock works fine with this game, except the left analog. Just use the d-pad.
I have tried a ps2 controller and xbox 360 one and both cause Raziel to run in circles on my pc when joypad is selected.

Just turn off the analogs of the PS2 controller.
That defeats the purpose of playing it on a gamepad... Games with 2D controls are hard to play with just the directional buttons.
Instead of XPadder, I recommend Pinnacle Game Profiler. It costs a little more but is overall the better product.

I also made a profile, which can be found in this tread:

I dug out an old PS2 to USB controller adapter and paired it with a wireless Logitech PS2 controller and it works very well. Even the left analog stick works without any special software.
