I went through the Blood Omen 2 troubleshooting process I could find on here. Set it up to run with just one cpu, installed the special dll wrapper, limited the fps, and disabled vsync. I haven't seen my problem mentioned elsewhere though: As soon as I try to save the game, it CTDs.

Then by dumb luck, I noticed that it tried to save the game in a new folder right in my C:\ instead of in my usual game folder. The game wouldn't start at all while this folder existed. I had to delete it to get things running again, then again on saving it crashed.

The only way I'd be able to complete this game is if I go all the way through in one go. Not very appealing. Any ideas?

Not sure. Can say only that save should be stored in User
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Blood Omen 2\

Where your My Documents folder placed? And what is a Windwos user profile name?

Since this is Wiki not always 100% accurate, same as for forums. Download and use fixies with backups

Ha! I think you're onto something here.
My profile name used to be "hort_wort", but the underscore was causing a lot of trouble so I changed it to "Hort". I went to look at my users folder and there was a new folder there that read just "hort_" that contained only some Soul Reaver 2 saves. So it looks like this series of games might have found the previous username somehow!

That dang underscore is still sabotaging me. My nemesis.

Running the bo2.exe as an admin seems to do the trick though! It still sticks saves in the "hort_" folder, but.... eh fine.
Changing user name in Windows just add additional nickname. It still technically old User.

There should be settings to move My Documents... somewhere near settings where you can change Temp folders locations.

xxx_xxx should be OK. Although, for install location i prefer use "-". Some Filysystems on PC or on very old games CD mounted in current soft\OS can change "_" , " " (space) to "-" - while "-" always stay "-". But this cause troubles only for DOS\W95 games and very rare.

Anyway, better path is shortest ones, with only latin letters, no spaces and no special symbols. For game installation it possible to use "-" (instead of "_" and space), while for Windows User... i dont know, never use names like that. Just my own name or "Admin". Maybe better dont use anything except short latin, not even "-".

Try to find settings about moving existed User folders, not just rename Win account.
Such old games as BO2 use registry to obtain the path to the folder Documents and there are some problems with this.
