Hello,

I am trying to use UGE for LOL1 but I can't figure out which numeric values to use for backpack items and the money purse. I've tried several different numbers but nothing worked. Can anybody help?

Edit: Since this method might be a bit difficult for you, I whipped together a save myself here http://www.mediafire.com/?lurgy1xgmqhqeyu to make your life easier, and as a proof of concept for everyone else. It's basically michael at the start of the game before meeting with king richard with the best equipment you can get in the game.

Yes, I can help with that, although you won't be using UGE for this, you'll be using Hex Workshop and editing a savegame.
First off, you will need http://www.mediafire.com/view/?rww3tq7b2w2ar7c
It's a text file I created with the hex codes for all the items in the game (which was a pain in the arse I might add)

Once you have your savegame opened in a hex editor, you need to use the search function and look for offset 0x00000284 and replace the 00 which is there with 1A (the item we will be adding)

Now you need to look for offset 0x00000627 and replace 00000000000000000000000000000080
with
00000000000000C00A400400XXXX0040
(remember to replace the XXXX with the desired item from the text file)

To tsteine

Thank you very much. I would have responded sooner but I thought I would receive an email when someone answered my question. I didn't receive one so I thought no one answered. I just happened to check and found your answer.

Big Thank You

Hello!

Just recently became a GOG.com member and downloaded "Lands of Lore: The Chaos Throne" as my first and favorite old game.

I manage to use you save game .DAT file and converted the main character from Micheal to Conrad, cause he was better and balanced.

Like you I tried to Hack (using PSPad Hex editor) the SAVE###.DAT file(s) in order to get better equipment at the start of the game. But I stumped at trying to get other gear and stuff a the very start. What I've learned...

-Adding an item will result in an "illegal item" in the inventory which would crash or freeze the game when clicked on.

-In the advanced or later part in the game, copying an item multiple times with the same Hex-Value is Halfway-Successful until you placing the copies on the ground, one copied item on the ground while the second copied item will freeze the game.

-Key items (some) are Hex-Valued as "0B00" even if the are different whether if it's a Golden Key or a Writ, strangely.

My only successful (Hopefully, so far so good...) non-glitchy items were...

- 8402 Arbalest "Eternity"
- 0700~0A00 Halberd (Plain)
- Changing the Money value from 41 to 5000 crown.
- Changing Micheal to Conrad.

I am wondering if you had any luck at getting other equip/gear until now if you are still playing the game,

Reply if you can please.

This was created recently. Very in depth and amazing.
This guy posted a nice editor, haven't tried it cause don't wanna waste too much time on this game, but uge is bad and causes crashes when you modify some things.

Oh man, that Scotia savegame editor linked above is nuts. Though it's a windows program, I had a very easy time getting it to work with Wine on Linux. It's not perfect, but it can do anything. Place yourself at any spot on any map, get any item, change your class levels, etc... It can even create a new save file from scratch, and it will work.

2 issues:

1) Adding characters to your party is very buggy, especially Dawn and player character duplicates/alternates outside of slot 1.
2) Don't equip items in the editor, because they won't have their effects applied to your protection/might. On the other hand, if you'd like to be a magic karate monk, go on and equip stuff in the editor and then remove it when you're in game. If removing equipment takes your might or protection score below zero, it will overflow.
