The gog screenshots and a youtube walkthrough I am watching have much better graphics than my gog version. I am playing in full screen, is this why? Or is there a fan patch? I am currently playing the first LoL I believe. I bought 2 bundle.
It may help if you mentioned what game your're referning to and include a screenshot of your game for others to check/compare.
Lands of Lore 1 is what it is. Can't modify graphics settings in that game.
The screenshots on GOG are pretty low quality imo, so not sure how your game would look worse. Your game would look a lot more crisp.

As for the youtuber, I'd have to see it, but perhaps they're using some dosbox alternative that allows for whatever you're seeing in that video, I have no idea.

Lands of Lore 2 has a low detail and high detail setting. Apparently it still supports 3d hardware acceleration too, but I never use it.

Gotcha: Lands of Lore 1 is what it is. Can't modify graphics settings in that game.
I'd say this statement isn't quite accurate: the game runs in DOSBox, and therefore you do have a few graphical settings to adjust (in the dosboxLOL1.conf file, in this case). The most important one is scaler in the render section: it contains scaling method used to stretch the video, and the default value in GOG configs is normal2x (which simply doubles the size of pixels, whereas most others apply some sort of smoothing filter); IMO, most games tend to look better in hq2x mode (or hq3x for the larger screens/smaller original resolutions).
Also, tv2x and scan2x modes emulate old TV/CRT screens, which may have nostalgic value for some (and the scanlines also distract the eye from the lack of smoothing in the image).

P.S. With a bit of fiddling, Lands of Lore 1 can be run in ScummVM (because it was made on the engine of Legends of Kyrandia); this gives you basically the same graphical settings as in DOSBox but with an actual GUI (I normally pick "fit to window" + HQ 3x), with an added benefit of supporting both speech and subtitles at once (unlike in the original game). Note: enabling MIDI turns off music in the game, for some reason.

*snip*

If I recall correctly, I believe Lands Of Lore 1 soundtrack was composed with the MT-32 in mind so that would be the preferred option (This does require either the original hardware or the MT-32 files though).

Otherwise, to get MIDI music (and I just checked this on on the latest x64 build of ScummVM[2.60]):

Make sure in the Audio Tab you have a "Music Device" that's MIDI friendly selected (Like FluidSynth)

In the MIDI Tab, "Mixed AdLib/MIDI mode" needs to be enabled to hear BOTH Sound effects and Music

Also in the MIDI Tab, If using FluidSynth, make sure you've chosen a soundfont. Fatboy is a good one. The main download site for this one is down, but it can be found on the web archive.
(You'll need to copy and paste the following link, clicking just defaults to the original site for some reason)

Happy playing.
