Before the game update, everything went perfectly but since this update the version of Kknd that now supports better resolutions, (i.e. the wraper) it is impossible to replay missions from the main campaign with the "Play Mission" button.

No matter which side you take when choosing a mission, the game closes without error messages and returns to Galaxy.

I have tried the following things in vain:

Uninstall and install the game
Check/repair the set

I use Windows 10.

I'm pretty sure its something related to the DDraw wrapper added in the recent update. I rolled back to the last version through the install configuration and it works fine, just at low res. Its just windows 10 failing, as per usual.
I have this exact same issue. I just bought the game, and it's unfortunately unplayable. Which is a shame, I would love to play this, I played it as a kid.
Same issue.

Tried everything With the Graphics card, does not work. Also W10.

Edit:
It worked! Once! Then i quit to menu to see if it was possible again.

Guess what: It failed.
But when it worked it really worked, it seems it has something to do with loading the intro videos!

Edit 2:
I uninstalled all the FMV files (the videos). Guess what, it Works now. Every time. It crashes launching the cut scenes. That's why skirmish mode Works.

Thanx a lot. Removing all FMV files helped.
Yeah, removing the FMV files seems to help. But I don't want to play without briefings. It's interesting that for me the first Evolved mission works fine and shows video normally but the first Survivors mission crashes the game half the times. Yet launches another half the times.
The crash (an access violation) appears to happen in the Windows call "timeGetTime". I think it's trying to divide by zero due to timing issues (hence why it sometimes works, and also because other programs running may be interfering with the timing), and then the exception handler is crashing when trying to initialize.

It appears that timeGetTime's behavior has recently been modified by Microsoft: randomascii.wordpress.com/2020/10/04/windows-timer-resolution-the-great-rule-change/
Perhaps this was the trigger for the crash?

But more importantly, I may have found a workaround, although it's not perfect. When I use "Cheat Engine" and use its generic "Speedhack" function with a factor of 0.5 (thus making the game run twice as slow; I haven't optimized this value), I haven't been able to reproduce the crash. (Cheat Engine's Speedhack hooks timeGetTime, and makes it return different values.)
When I started the game for the first time, and naturally watched the intro, everything was fine. I completed several missions as survivors with a view of all briefings. After restarting the game another time, I noticed that the game crashes when it tries to show the briefing. I missed the intro this time.

So, if you start the game and view the intro in its entirety, then further briefings in the game between missions are played normally. It looks like there is a bug in the game - if you missed playing any video, then there will be a crash.

That is, every time I launch the game and don't miss the intro, everything works fine.

Thank you!

The first time I played the game everything was fine. But after restarting a mission (and skipping the briefing I'd already watched), suddenly I was getting the immediate crashes.

As long as I watch all videos (including the long intro video when the game starts up), no crashes!

Thank you. I had the same issue.

Based on this theory I find a better workaround is to only remove the INTRO.VBC and MH_FMV.VBC so you don't have to watch the long intro every time you enter the game. And all the mission briefings can paly without crash.
