As the 30th anniversary of BAK’s release is coming up, it’s about time to share an Easter egg (I should have done this 10 or 20 years ago!) …

What did poor souls do while awaiting death after a long fall into the underground pits and surviving (by holding down the “p” key)?

They scratched their names into the wall for others, whom also fell in, to know that they had been there!

A different scratching/carving can be found in each different type of underground pit (mines, dungeons and sewers).

I have a screen capture from the mines I can post in a reply below, but don’t want to spoil it for those whom want to try it out and to be surprised. What do you recommend? Wait a week, or two? Or just post it and don’t worry about it?

As this forum uses a pull model to alert folks of posts AFAIK (meaning it doesn’t have a notification system without visiting it) and only links pictures (doesn’t automatically show them), here’s an image from the bottom of that mine pit.

FYI: As with the prior one, I upscaled it from the original 320x200 resolution to 533x400 so that it has the proper aspect ratio when viewed (using pixel replication rather than antialiasing to preserve the original 256 color palette).

BTW: The images names are strange I suspect because of using my phone to make the posts.

Here's another one. I can't quite make out the text on the right to be honest! Perhaps you might remember what it says?

By the way Tim would you be able to send me a message? I'm working on a remake of Betrayal at Krondor and would love to chat with you.

Cheers,
Emmanuel

Emmanuel, the dungeon wall cracks on the lower left spell Joseph, and the lower right I’m unsure (not what I recall). I’ll ask him at the celebration next month.

I was unable to send a message, but perhaps now that friends is setup…
