Astaldo711: Had the same problem. I set it for Win95 compatibility and hit Esc to get through the intro and so far it's working. Only just started playing so don't know if anything else will mess up but it's nice to play again!
There is a texture problen in Chapter 4 that was actually fixed in the patch for the game, but GOG has been silent on when they will uptate their version with the patch.....
Have the same problem. Win7 64bit and did patch it with ImageCFG.

Did not work before, does not work now. Crashes in the intro at the same moment it does for the other ones here.

:-(
Gog's support found a solution that works for me. It is explained here:

http://www.gog.com/support/prince_of_persia_the_sands_of_time/speed_issues_with_multicore_processors

That combined with compatability with Win98, deactivated visual designs, deactivated desktop, deactivated scaling and run-as-admin.

Just my two cents. Had the same issue. Set it to Win 95 compat, run it in 480 res, and restarted my computer. I'm halfway to Panizo, now. No prologue skipping needed. I haven't played with the settings too much since, since what works, works, but I doubt I need the compatibility change.

Back when I was but a wee lad (well, 15 or 16, maybe), I had issues running it on XP, learning what to avoid doing to not crash the game, and saving very, very often, but then got to a point where what I HAD to do crashed it on a constant basis. I started fiddling with the settings, and learned that to stop the crashes, I had to set it to 480 resolution, and to get rid of the purple nights and caves, I had to run it in 256 colors. Well, GOG fixed the color issue already, so it was a simple matter of tweaking the other settings to get it to run right. Besides, it crashes on start-up when I try to run it on 256 colors.

tnoyce: Update - It may be a multi-core affinity issue. I patched the game exe using imagecfg.exe, setting the CPU affinity to #1. Both the prologue and chapter one intro movies play without a hitch. In terms of random in-game crashes, it's still wait and see.. But at least this change IS encouraging.

gtrager: I set compatability to Win 98, and disabled desktop composition and themes, and was able to finish the videos. Haven't played very far yet though.
does not work, same crash "Has stopped working" error. Sierra games that ran under Windows 3.1 native had a history of crashing outside this narrow native margin,
Ive tried setting it to Windows 95 setting and I get

"Windows title not found" error.

And yes the game crashes in the same spot for the intro and the cinema just before starting.
My BiA runs smoothly for the entire game, but, literally crashes during every movie or cutscene (except the ending apparently).

Try skipping the videos & save at the beginning of the chapter. If you want a general idea of what to do without a walkthrough, the videos are available on YouTube. Search for Chapter 1&2 or Chapter 2&3, those are pretty easy to find, and then click on the user & go through their uploads to find the rest.

Unfortunately, I had to use YouTube to watch all the in game videos, but, skipping them allowed me to play the game. Good luck!
