Every time I try to start the game it either crashes after the "loading betrayal at krondor... please wait"-screen or right after the dynamix-screen. Crash is just the common " Dox Box has detected a problem and must be closed"-error message. I have tried every graphic mode available and I have tried limiting cpu cycles but it always crashes. OS windows XP

Try switching to windowed mode, either by pressing alt+enter just after DOSBox starts, or by changing 'fullscreen=true' to 'false' in .conf file in BaK folder.

Didn't help, it still crashes after the dynamix screen.

Ok, I just reinstalled BaK. I think the moment of your crash is the one when music is supposed to play.
See if you can play the .ogg files in 'music' folder (maybe you're missing a codec). You may also try renaming that folder or removing the files somewhere to see if the game will run without them.

Do you hear any sound at the Dynamix logo before crash? (there's supposed to be one with that 'twinkle' thingy). If not, then maybe the problem lies with sound emulation. Backup your dosboxBAK.conf file and then edit the following settings:

'mpu401=intelligent' to 'none'
'sbtype=sb1' to 'none'
'pcspeaker=true' to 'false'

Ok, after trying those sound things I desided to try reinstalling the games and while looking for uninstaller in start menu I saw a Graphic mode setup and desided to check it once more. It didn't have the same mode on that I had chosen so I changed it and tried once more and the game worked... Earlier I had only tried the Graphic mode setup exe in game folder and that seems to be just some generic setup exe. So for me changing Graphic mode from overlay to DDraw fixed the problem. Thanks for help Thiev!

Apparently I helped in a very roundabout way, but what's important is that it now works for you :D
Enjoy the game.
Thanks, I had the same problem, works for me now using your fix. :)
Funny, on my old desktop with Windows XP I had to edit the CONF file to avoid crashing, but on my new portable with Windows 8 the game worked without a hitch...

Have similar issue, but at the Pizzio or home to the lead toon. CUT SCENE begins and then crashes without a clue as to what the problem is. AUDIO seems to be fine, and running it compat w/ W95, on a W-7Pro/64 rig. Tried some other compats, but they will not load the saved games. Advice needed
William is talking to his mother, and then CRASH. Maybe in the audio codex?

That doesn't sound like Betrayal at Krondor. Are you playing Betrayal in Antara? Troubleshooting that game will be very different since it doesn't run under DOSBox. Maybe start a new thread to ask about it.
