Hey there,

I first learned about this game about one and a half years ago with the first Demo that was playable in the Rift DK2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qf4VYpG6gLA

Your KickStarter also said that you'd support the Rift, but it isn't in the Beta yet.

Are you still planning on supporting the Rift DK2, can we expect a Build with it before release? What are the difficulties that prevent enabling it?

Are you planning to release Kona for the final consumer version of the Rift coming out in March, the HTC Vive in April?

Thanks, looking forward to playing this in VR.

Hi,

We are planning on supporting the final consumer version of the rift, but not right away. The game needs a lot of optimization for VR support (our game doesn't even run on certain laptops at this point). It's hard to tell in terms of timeline, so I'll stick to "a few months after the official release of the game, which is planned for March".

In other words, VR support is on the table, Oculus is a sure thing, HTC Vive will probably be supported too, but I'll need to discuss this with my team to make sure because we don't have dev kits yet.

Thanks for the message, we'll keep everyone in the loop about VR support through our blog and social networks.

You should check out the upcoming Unity 5.4 Update if you haven't seen the late Unity Vision VR/AR Summit, they've apparently implemented Optimizations that will improve the GPU Rendering performance in VR by x2 and CPU performance up to x5 without you needing to do much of anything: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Ca3_ZTYUYAA2JyJ.jpg

Not to say that the Minimum Requirements for the Oculus Consumer version is a 970 GTX, so it's not exactly expected to run on Laptops. :P

If you haven't yet and are serious about VR support you might want to contact Oculus and/or Valve, they might send you free DevKits to help you out. Thanks and good luck.

Yes we know about the 5.4 update. In fact, the game once supported Oculus DK2, but we are now waiting on more recent hardware in order to move forward with the final implementation.

We have a lot of optimizations in the pipeline that should allow the game to work on VR, performance-wise.

However, we currently have no plans to support their motion controller, as it's against the design of the game.

:)
