It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I have bought KQ1 here on GOG, but I really want to play it on one of my old DOS machines. Obviously the files hosted here will not work - it's all scummvm as far as I can tell.
I've found images of the original disks on archive.org, but the problem is the copy protection which requires the actual physical disks to work.
My question is, does anybody know where I can either get a patch/crack for the DOS version, or a pre-cracked version? You'd think it should be easy to find with a simple internet search, but no luck for me yet...

I hope I'm allowed to ask these sorts of questions... I mean, I do own the game, I'm just trying to find a way to get it to run on my system of choice. I'm not advocating piracy.

(BTW, I'm not going to go and buy an original copy. They are usually way too expensive, especially as I am in Australia and they mostly show up in the US, and postage often costs more than the item itself. Besides, you never know if these old disks even still work)

EDIT: Just realised I was a bit unclear about which version I'm after. I have in fact found a working version of the PC re-release from 1990, but it has updated graphics. I'll play that one if I have to, but I sort of prefer the charm of the earlier versions. I'm just not sure if there is an EGA/VGA version with the old graphics (as opposed to PCjr or composite/RGB versions, which I don't have any systems that will run them).
(Seriously, there seems to be more re-releases and alternate versions of this game than Blade Runner!)

Does your old DOS PC have a hard drive? If it does, then what makes you think the GOG version won't work?

There was no proper executable that I could find - just the files that scummvm needs and scummvm itself, which definitely doesn't work in DOS.

Aargh, nevermind! Stupid noob mistake...
It was a .com file, not a .exe

*Walks away looking sheepish*
