so, before galaxy was a thing, mask of eternity would run perfectly fine. but since it went to being it's own thing, i can't get past the loading screen to start a game. it keeps loading up to a quarter of the bar when it says it's copying files to harddrive.

since i don't have any saved data before i can only start a new game, which is where it keep getting stuck.

Have you tried going to the KQ8 executable and just running the game through there, bypassing GOG Galaxy?

yeah, i hae tried a few times but it still gets stuck when in the same place unfortunately.

I believe I had the same problem and the solution was to run nicode's kqmoepfd script as described in
kings_quest_series/kings_quest_8_not_even_loading_win10_surface_go/post7
on these forums (sorry, not allowed to post whole URL)

I should also say that in the course of trying to fix the subsequent sound problem I re-installed and the crash while copying game files problem seemed to not recur even without running kqmoepfd, so just re-installing might be enough to fix it.
