When ever i open kings quest IV the graphics are odd and there are bizarre lines making the game quite ugly. If i alt tab to window view it looks perfectly fine. Is there a fix for this? I'm running on windows 7 64 bit.

I'm also running Win7 64-bit, but I'm having no problem with graphics or anything.
There should be a dosbox config file in the KQ4 directory. Open it and look for a line that says "output="... Change whatever output it's set to to overlay. So that it reads "output=overlay".

What if they is no dosbox config file? I can't find one anywhere
Look where GOG installed KQ4. Probably in Program Files\Gog.com\KQ4. Or something to that extent. In the KQ4 folder, you should see a file that says something like dosboxkq4.conf. Or something to that effect. Since I don't have GOG's version of KQ4, I can't tell you if that is exact or not. But you should be able to figure it out from there. Then just open the file with notepad.
How do I open the conf file?
Open it with notepad
Another solution: Use ScummVM to play the game. It works flawlessly and offers some additional benefits like undithering EGA graphics, if you're into that sort of thing.
Okay, so I downloaded ScummVM, but I can't figure out how to launch king's quest through it. I already have dosbox, but even after I changed the output to overlay the graphics wouldn't come in once the box was expanded.
Once you've launched ScummVM, click on Add Game (located on the right). Then browse to the folder where it was installed. Probably Program Files\Gog.com\KQ46\KQ4. Or something similar to that. Once you've added the game, then you can click on Edit to change graphics options
Wow, thank you so much for this solution!!!
SCREEN JUMPS AT START, NO PIC, ARROW FOLLOWS
My characters are in wonky colors. Like the queen has green skin and purple hair. Other than that the game seems ok so far. Is there a patch or something?
