Hi KQ8 players,
Switch to First-person view:
In the Barren Region, I think the game plays better in first-person view during the lava block-jumping puzzle but the game doesn't let you switch views at that time like it normally does so you need to use the console. Enter the puzzle in first-person mode, then get the console to drop down by pressing Ctl-Shift-7 and type
setThirdPerson
That's right, not setFirstPerson but setThirdPerson. That should change your view. Get rid of the console with Ctl-Shift-7 like before. Now you can jump around a little easier but don't step backwards or you'll fall in the lava. Once you've completed the puzzle and are on the other side, use the console the same way as before in order to set things right since you'll be in third-person again. Now your F2 key should work like before.
but 7 triggers the vision potion...
If you accidentally triggered your vision potion, give yourself a replacement with the give command. At the console, type:
give clarity 1
and that should do it.
File-edits?
Editing the controlling files in this case is not recommended but if you want to, then comment out all instances of "setThirdPerson" in these four files:
tiletps.cs, tiletps2.cs, tiletpn.cs, tiletpn2.cs.
Edit these in the "KQ8\barren\patch" folder, not "KQ8\barren\kq" since the files in the patch folder take precedence.
BIG WARNING:
Connor must be in third-person view for his first jump from either the north or south side or he will die from lava poisoning! :) After that, then you can switch.
Second thoughts:
OK, well now I think third-person view is better when you first try to figure out this puzzle. After you do, then first person is better but ultimately it's a matter of personal preference. The problem is that you can't see the block you're standing on when in first-person view.
Question:
Does anyone know how to extend the maximum downward-looking range of view?
Other:
You can backflip to the block behind you if you think it's wise.
I suggest saving the game before you enter the puzzle but you should be able to save mid-puzzle too.
OK, bye now.
