I bought the KQ7 and 8 package from gog.com, and the KQ7 game works great. However, when I try to open KQ8, I briefly see an image of Connor, and then the game stops nad the desktop reappears. I have tried all combinations of compatibility, and the starttxt solution here.

I have the same compilation as you do. But I'm running on Win 7. I would suggest posting your problem here...
