Has anyone else had this issue or figured out what caused it? When I start up KQ7 and start the intro video, the frame rate is maybe half what it should be. I checked this by watching the intro on Youtube and saw what it should have looked like. I have messed with the settings in the DosBox configurator but can't find a solution. Anyone have any insight on this?

Try changing the Output renderer to something like ddraw

Sorry, but no, no change. I tried every option in the list and nothing changed it.
just making sure, you are changing it under the dosboxKQ7.conf in the king's quest 7 folder?

Correct. I have checked that my changes are recorded in that file. Changes are sticking, but having no effect on the frame rate.
Okie, just a few other settings I'd check...

machine=svga_s3
fullresolution=original
output=overlay
scaler=normal2x
core=auto

The DOS version has a lower frame rate on the intro video than the Windows one, they're different file formats so that's normal.

Also, the animation in KQ7 is generally choppy and terrible, so don't go in expecting Disney quality. ;)

As to OP's actual problem, try adjusting the dosbox cycles upwards by using Ctrl-F12 in game, and seeing if that makes a difference.

It won't, the file is literally encoded with a lower frame rate for the dos intro/outro videos. They don't use the avi files that the Windows version uses.
