I've reached the catacombs prepared and I have once tried to enter the catacombs unprepared to.

As soon as I get thrown in the game just crashes, rebooting the system obviously doesn't work either.

How do I fix this problem or will gog update the KQ 4,5,6 pack with a patch to fix these bugs.

lol so far in this series it would be a shame to stop now.

for future notice are there any unpatched bugs in KQ7? I plan to buy the 3rd pack only for KQ7 to wrap up the series.
Do you get an error message when the game crashes? What OS are you using?

No error message or what so ever the game just freezes but the audio still plays.

I'm useing Windows 7.

Sorry for the late reply I didn't think anyone would reply that fast.
Well, for an immediate fix, I'd recommend running the game through ScummVM. Just launch ScummVM, click Add Game, then point to where you installed KQ6. This will also add the benefit of playing both the DOS & Windows versions.

Only bad side of using ScummVM, is you'll have to start from scratch and work your way back to the catacombs

Don't worry that will be okay since I'm still new to the KQ games and my love for the series is still pretty strong also these games are pretty easy (sometimes) if you have gotten far or beaten them before same goes for most other sierra games to.

Thanks for the help, when I get the emulator I'll tell you if it works or not XD.

Thanks for the help mate :D

Also thanks to ScummVM it revealed the more updated windows version of KQ6 which has a better quality soundtrack and character pictures to so I get two different versions of KQ6. Awesome :D.

Thanks for the help also at the same time I was able to get Sam n Max hit the road to finaly run.

Sorry this reply is soooo late but I had to say thank you again.

I've already beaten KQ6 months ago round august. I'm glad I was able to play the whole KQ series that I missed out as a kid.

Now time for me to get into Space Quest and Leisure Suit Larry. I will pass on KQ7 since the bundle comes with KQ8 which is pretty awful and its gameplay style ain't my kind of thing.
KQ8, is not awful, in my humble opinion. ...and Actually I consider it better than KQ7 (which IMO is the weakest of the King's Quest games, far too linear). After playing through KQ8 multiple times it has really grown on me as my third or fourth favorite game in the series or so.

It is 'different' in several ways though. But also in many ways a return to many of the archtypes introduced in KQ1 (more open large worlds to explore, random monster encounters, a non-royal knight like Graham on a quest to save the kingdom and king from destruction, a McGuffin treasure hunt, etc), but with more serious tone of KQ5 and KQ6.

The combat however does give it a different feel, and is not for everyone.

On its own KQ8 is actually a really good game (and had primarily good reviews back in the day). Although some people don't think it incorporated KQ in the best possible way, that is to say a great game on its own, but not necessarily a great KQ game (but views on this vary per each individual). It's certainly worth giving a try and seeing where you lean on it. It apparently outsold all previous KQ games as well.

Incidently, KQ7 was actually the lowest rated KQ game, and also the most criticized back in the day, for not being entirely true to the early KQ games as well, to those who argued it was way too dated, and full of overused clichés, and didn't add anything new to keep KQ fresh...

I have tried re-visiting KQ8 many times and I just can't get into it. It really feels nothing like a KQ game to me. I actually liked kq7 even though some of the puzzles were really odd. I'm afraid, though, that I'm in with the group that says avoid kq8 at all costs

envisage, I think that's the issue.

Both KQ8 and KQ7 of all the KQ games are 'take it or leave it' affairs.

They are either liked or they are hated. They have divided the fans down the middle than any earlier games in the series, ever did.

Personally I'd recommend if anyone is on the fence and doesn't know if they will like one or the other, or both, then wait for one of the sales, and get it when its only a few dollars. That way they avoid spending out on something they might not like.

Alternatively there is the option of buying the entire series in a collection pack, and getting a better discount overall. Do they still offer the collection set method?
