I had an enjoyable afternoon of playing KQ6 (the first King's Quest game I played as a child), and the game has crashed on me several times. I'm not sure of the underlying cause, so I was hoping that you all could help me troubleshoot the issue. (Thankfully I'm remembering to save often so that not much progress is lost when this happens.)

I am running the game in the DOSBox version directly downloaded from gog.

It does not crash at specific scenes. (First time was after the second gift sent via nightingale, the second was after I gave away a ring so it's owner's fate didn't become my own, and the third time -- before I stopped -- was right after I solved the riddle at the man eating door.) I tested this after it crashed the first time.

I do have the speed all the way at max most of the time. (I don't know if adjusting that would potentially cause the issue.)

I can't tell you exactly how much time was played between crashes (I was having fun and was not noticing the passage of time).

The game was running in 640x480.

And, if it matters, here are my computer specs (And before anyone asks, yes my drivers are up to date):

AMD A10-7800 Radeon R7 3.5 Ghz processor
8GB RAM
nVidia GTX 950 2GB Video Card
64bit OS

If this is a known issues, I'll apologize in advance because I couldn't find anything about this myself.

The easiest solution is to run KQ6 through ScummVM. Which has a few benefits over playing it through DosBox. Like being able to play the game with the hi-res portrait graphics that were in the windows version. Just download ScummVM and point it to your KQ6 directory. Only downside is it won't be able to use your save games, so you'll have to play it from the beginning
This may be a different problem. I'm on Windows 10 and my game crashed at start. After I tried launching dosbox directly, I noticed in the status screen that it was recognizing my gamepad and froze when trying to deal with it. Unplugging my gamepad fixed the problem.
