When loading early KQ or really any Sierra games on Dosbox

The screen glitches twice on startup, before I check my inventory, and when I'm finished checking my inventory (I linked the images earlier but they didn't work, incase you saw the earlier edit and were wondering)\

I have Windows 8.1 btw.

This is what it looks like during the few seconds between choosing to look at my inventory and actually getting to the inventory screen.

You could try different graphic modes in DOSBox. Run "Launch Graphic Mode Setup" in the game's installation folder and change the Graphic mode, e.g. to DDraw or OpenGL. On the Advanced Settings tab, you can also change the scaling engine, but for testing I'd start with "None" and then try the "..2x" scaler that you like most.

Well, to be honest. It's not a gamebreaker. The only thing that even comes close to anything resembling a problem is that the inventory screen has a delay. And that's nothing. I am afraid to adjust my dosbox incase I screw something up with that, or even my computer itself. As I have no idea what I would be doing, and it's not worth risking it.

Sure, it's also not certain that it'll fix your issue. However, there's almost no risk in using the "Launch Graphic Mode Setup". There's a simple drop down menu to change the graphic mode. If it doesn't work, simply start it again and choose the default graphic mode, which is "Overlay". This only affects the DOSBox environment for this specific game. Every game comes with its own setup, hence changing it for KQ1 only affects KQ1, nothing else.

Thanks :3
And certain graphic modes can cause slow downs in parts of the game. I personally recommend ddraw. It's usually a safe option that won't slow things down
