Hey all!

I realise that gog only provides the DOS version of KQ7, but I remember it came out in a time with a windows versions (along with SQ6 and QfG4, both of which are available here, but only in the DOS versions) to run in Windows 95.

I also realise that if one came across the windows version, it'd be hell to get to run (probably why gog excludes it), since windows emulation isn't really there yet..unless you were able to run the game in Windows on Dosbox on your computer (and it wasn't incredibly slow). Probably the reason a number of "inbetween" time games available only on windows aren't here on gog yet.

Does anyone know the differences between the DOS and Windows versions, though? I remember when I tried running the DOS versions a long while back, I got some message about how it would not make full use of colours and graphical effects available in the windows version.

I have the original CD of KQ7 (although it complains about missing a file when I try to install now) as well as the game here on GOG, I pondered installing it, copying that missing file to my installation of KQ7 (maybe if I ran it on Wine or something), but Wine doesn't seem to be able to handle it (or I don't know how to work it).
The only real differences are between 1.4/1.5 windows 3.1 version and the 2.0 dos/win95 versions.

This involves some deaths removed and certain puzzles or animations changed or modified.

Btw you can get the older windows only version off steam. It only works on 32 bit machines. Hopefully be supported in ScummVM in the future.

Other differences 2.0 added extra saving options. Ability to save at any time.
