Just bought this during the phenomenal, amazing, 75% price drop. Still not positive I'll like it, but at $2.49 instead of $9.99, I'm much more willing to try it out. :-)

So, any recommended patches for this (official or otherwise)?

GOG version is already patched to the official 1.7, which is the latest.
There are no unofficial 'patches' per se, but some tweaking can be done through mods. Most of them can be found on official forums here.

That said, I would recommend playing the vanilla version first. Then, if there is any particular aspect of game/combat that you don't like (like i.e. AI difficulty) you can probably find a mod that changes it. Or even try a complete overhaul ;)

I've experienced a bug where I can't interact with anything in Upper Hadar.

According to this thread ( EDIT: IT WILL NOT LET ME POST LINKS ), I can solve this bug by downgrading to the 1.6 patch; or does someone have an alternative fix?

I have the same problem. Tried downgrading to version 1.6.5 (downloaded from gamershell.com), then it asked for the original DVD to be inserted. Found some no-cd cracks for 1.6 - the game started, the savegame loaded, but the bug was still present - still could not interact with NPC's in Upper Hadar.

Unfortunately, I don't have a definite fix, only a workaround for now. See the corresponding support article here.
Please backup your saves, use the provided .exe while playing through Upper Hadar and then go back to the latest file. Saves should be cross-compatible, but backup is always good.
