This was/is one of the most violent games ever made. It was one of those games that gaming sites gave poor ratings to because, well, they felt the HAD to, otherwise they'd look like bloodthirsty, thrill-killing lunatics.
But just like the original Postal and Carmageddon (and their sequels) and the original Soldier of Fortune, this game represents a dark underbelly of gaming that is not very often explored, and rarely is it explored as diabolically enjoyably as Kingpin.
While the graphics may look less-than-stellar today, the game experience should not be missed. For the price that gog.com is making it available, there's no reason why every FPS fan shouldn't have a copy of this game. Really. I own an original copy from 1999 (that I bought for $20!) and I'm buying another copy from gog.com because it's already got the nearly-mandatory 1.21 update (my original is buggy as h311 and crashed constantly until the 1.21 patch came out) and I know--and this is important--I KNOW it's going to work on my newer computers because gog.com does their homework and gets these old games done RIGHT!
And, no, I don't work for gog.com nor do they pay me for reviews. I just think they're great for keeping these old games alive at a great price with their own system for making them work great on new computers.
