From Metacritic:

Every environment was like that, ....... for no goddamn reason but to railroad the player, and to make sure they can only go in the direction that the devs point them.

Which means: Definitely not a game for me, and for many others as well. For some reasons this type of game is destined for console players. That include the NPC representation and their non-uniqeness with exclamation marks who to talk to.

i played the original for years.

'railroad' is a gross and obscene oversimplification.

go ahead, go watch gameplay footage, longplays, you'll see there's a lot to be enjoyed! this sure isn't something like you're imagining.
This game came out more than 8 years ago, so there's plenty of feedback to be had if you're looking for reviews. Just look for the original version on metacritic (I'm not allowed to post links at the moment)

If you like a mix between God of War and World of Warcraft you should give this game a try. Its great, but it's definetly not for everyone.
Certainly no Elder scrolls but I don't remember feeling railroaded.
