Okay, after unlocking the magic user who is the second hero in the game, it seem he's not leveling up as he should, it seems he doesn't get experience for killing enemies at a distance with his powers. This seems to be a bug!

He is at max level in my game, so maybe you're putting him against weak enemies? I thought Catha wasn't gaining experience, but when I used her in later stages she leveled up, even if took a little while.

Yes, for me too the heroes are levelling up much faster at later stages. Seems like the early stages give little XP.
