Why don't the weapon stats show the same results as my Melee Weapon stat?

I have enough strength to use either longsword.

Fearnot has 49 stab/slash, 3 blunt, 109 defence and 81 durability.

Saving Grace has 52 Stab/Slash, 2 blunt, 89 defence and 23 durability.

Both are at 100% condition. When I equip Fearnot my stats for Melee Weapon (on the inventory screen, under main level, left of Health) are 57/57/3, and when I equip Saving Grace they're 66/66/3.

Just looking at the stats they're listed as having, I'd want to use Fearnot, but it looks like instead of 3 less damage it does 9, and with no gain in blunt damage. I don't want to take a ~15% hit to damage when I'm able to maintain my blade so easily, and I don't understand why there's such a discrepancy between the item's stats and my equipped weapon stats.

So does anyone know why the stats are different, or at least have a suggestion for which I should use?

Increase in damage may come from high skill and/or from perks. When in fight, as durability decreases, also damage potential decreases. So weapons with higher durability mantain full damage output longer. Despite lower damage Fearnot is superior, unless you can kill enemies in few attacks and always perform perfect blocks. Defence is also very important if you are not using shield.
