I think there is something really flawed with combat, especially against multiple opponents, that still has not been properly dealt with despite the amount of patches.
Don't get me wrong, I am really enjoying this game, but there is a specific thing that has really started to seriously annoy me.
When I get ambushed by bandits during fast travel, I can normally deal with them. Sometimes, though, Henry would get in a lock with one of them and would not get disentangled, no matter what I do or what buttons I push, while the other bandits just pummel him until he dies. The only choice I have, basically, is to wait for the game over screen.
This gets even more frustrating when I am in a full suit of plate armor, and the bandits are just normal peasants with maces or even clubs, and not a single piece of armor. So far for the realistic combat.
Is there something I am missing, or am I just doomed to lose my shit every time this happens?

Do you have any mods installed?
I have never even heard of such situation. The only problem with random encounters I have is that quite often I am attacked by 2-3 brigands in full armour (Milanese brigandine, noble chainmail etc.) and very good weapons (Longinus sword, Ravens beak) and I die rather quickly. And if I manage to win I to have to sell all the loot for over a week to all the merchants on the map.

No, I don't have any mods installed. This has already happened several times (5 or 6), and it is really starting to get unnerving. I understand when I lose against 3 or 4 bandits in full plate armor and good weapons (when I don't get in an infinite lock, of course), but this shouldn't happen, really feels like a bug, and a really annoying one at that.
it happens to me too. do you have the perk enabled (sorry don't remember which category it comes under off the top of my head) where your chance of breaking free from being in a clinch is higher? yes it frustrates me too, but i don't think it's a bug. i've played through this game several times already and it's happened in every playthrough. it's worse when the bandits use a polearm of sorts.
I also have that perk and nothing like that ever happened to me.
I think you should look at developers forum https://forum.kingdomcomerpg.com and see if there is something similar. If not, you should post there.

In the game’s combat system clubs / maces can cause damage through armor. I don’t know what the exact calculations are, but you can see this effect yourself by going to Capt. Bernard and doing two training sessions:

First, choose a bladed training weapon – your health will not decrease when you’re hit, as long as you have some stamina remaining. Next, chose a training mace (blunt weapon). You will notice that successful blows do take away some of your health, even when you still have stamina, and even though the weapon is wooden.

So yes, a bunch of peasants can kill your fully armored Hnery, if you let them treat him like a piniata. I suspect that is meant to stop armor from being too overpowered and to preserve some sense of danger against otherwise weak opponents.

When you say he'd get in a lock, do you mean a clinch - something like this (link to image)? If yes, does the clinch end properly - with one of you being shoved backwards? If it doesn't end properly - is there space behind you and the other combatant?

No, bludgeon damage is decreased by armour the same way the other types of damage are. The situation you are describing can be confusing, because except for bludgeon all other wooden training weapons have maximum damage of 1, where bludgeon (I think) has 31. In some situations (ie. counterattack) health can be damaged even if you have full stamina by any weapon.

I have tried to look for this perk, but I couldn't find it. I have the perk that allows me to damage the opponent's weapons when I get free from a clinch: is this the one you mean?

Also, I know that weapons damage me when my stamina depletes or when my armor is too damaged. The thing I can't cope with is why Henry would not get free from a clinch, or why the opponent would not push him away at some point.

That perk is called Clinch Master and it's found under Strenght perks.
Do you have any screenshot of that situation? It could be bug in collision detection not in clinch.

Thanks for the correction. Appreciated.

Well, you could try thinning the horde a bit using ranged combat beforehand? Though getting perma-tangled in a linch sounds more like a bug...
