Hey I've been playing the game and doing some reading but I'm just wondering if anyone can give me some advice on how to make a solid start in this game? What are the first actions I should be taking? Should I be gifting other clans and setting up trade routes as my first priority, mounting raids or sacrificing for myths (or what?). I sort of just keep playing but I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere because I'm not sure what my priorities should be.

Also, any combat advice? I keep picking random options and I'm not sure how those options are really affecting the outcomes of the battles. And I'm not sure how many guards I should be sending whenever I send caravans and go exploring and whatnot.

And what about myths, should I be focusing on one god, or many?

So many questions... and I don't want to trial and error all of them, can anyone help me?

#1: be sure you are playing on the easiest setting (they are not well labelled; Hard is Insanely Hard).

Combat choices influence, but don’t determine, outcome. Which is true of much of the game. (Think of it as confounding variables: you may have correctly anticipated their charge, but if a lucky slingstone hits your warleader, your warriors will falter and the battle is lost.)
I appreciate the answer, thank you! After playing a bit more I can see what you mean - the game is very much luck based. TOO luck based, if you ask me. You can progress easily with a little save scumming, or random events/battles can completely screw you over, even if you choose the 'right' answers and have well skilled men.

Great little gem though, very colorful and imaginative.
