Just purchased the game today, installation worked fine and quickly through the GOG downloader, but when I launch the game I get instantly thrown into a black screen. I can't do anything to leave the black screen and I waited 20 minutes in case it was just taking forever to load. Nothing, which forces me to leave the screen via power button.

Tried running as admin, switching to windows 7 compatibility, lowering resolution, all of which just led to the same thing. Windows and Drivers are updated as far as I'm aware. Help would be appreciated :)

There were rumors, that the game doesn't start, when Logitech keyboard, mouse or gamepad software or any other mouse tool software is running.
If you use one of these shut the configuration software down and unplug the gamepad before starting the game.

I can confirm that Logitech software is a cause for this game not working in such a way. Just turn off the said software (such as SetPoint in my case) and bob's your uncle.
I had the same problem yesterday on Windows 8. Comodo Firewall was blocking the application but I didn't see a message. I turned on XP compability and then I saw the problem... firewall message. Now I can launch the game with XP compability turned off.
i''l make a new topic for this :

If you aren't afraid of a bit testing you can try out my Launcher utility.
The KoDP-Launcher32.exe or KoDP-Launcher64.exe (depending on your operation system) is launching the game and then trying to find processes that block the game.
It is tested with setpoint only though, cause setpoint was the one blocking the game for me. In theory it should find other processes too.

In my case it was Comodo. Just reinstalled OS recently and on first launch of KoDP, black screen and full system freeze, had to do a hard reset. Then set it to trusted from file list, started it sandboxed too at first just to be sure, checked for an entry under HIPS rules, then closed and started again normally and all fine.

It's also said that Chrome may be causing issues, with a number of GOG games actually.
yup:
twas comodo: i've been lucky enough to see comodo notification appear and clicked on "always trust"

then i've found the kodp launcher which works pretty fine, though it took some workaround to work properly
thank you
Thank you all very much. I've been having the freeze / PC hang problem with multiple GoG and non GoG games.
Couldn't find anything about it, only a few threads around the forums here. Most of those led nowhere.
I though it was a hardware/driver problem at first, because ordinary programs usually can't freeze or BSOD a computer. They just don't have reach that deep.

Then I read this one and a few other threads on the KoDP forum and problem solved! I hope it solves all related problems for me.

It was Comodo Firewall's File Rating. Even though Comodo has a trusted vendors list with GoG on it. I guess some files are missed. I was sometimes able to launch the game using the included config/select language utility. For example Strike Suit Zero.

To get KoDP to run, I'm using JaiiDerHerr's launch utility, which takes care of killing the blocking applications, in my case Overwolf and a few others. The launcher didn't work for me at first, even after disabling the Run at 640x480 compat option. I always got a black screen. When I Alt-Tabbed, everything close to the cursor was blown up on the screen in multiple sizes and moving with the cursor (compat options interfering with the scaler code). Nothing of the game was visible, but the sound was playing. I fixed this by unticking the display compat options except for Disable visual themes. I also enabled compatibility for XP SP3, but that's probably not needed.

Thanks again
